What happened
On April 12, 2023, at 16:09 UTC, a Boeing 737-232, registration YV2823, was performing a takeoff roll at José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport in Barcelona, Venezuela. The aircraft, operated by Avior Airlines, was carrying 49 people, including the flight crew and 44 passengers, on a flight destined for Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía.
During the takeoff roll, the captain identified a power asymmetry between the two engines, noting that engine number two was highly accelerated while engine number one exhibited low acceleration. For safety reasons, the pilot decided to abort the takeoff and returned the aircraft to the parking stand.
The investigation
The investigation involved reviewing pilot licenses, medical certifications, maintenance logs, and conducting crew interviews. Investigators also performed a visual inspection of the aircraft and conducted troubleshooting on the propulsion system.
Upon inspecting engine number one, investigators identified stiffness in the engine control cable. Following the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) procedures, the engine push-pull cable was removed and replaced.
