What happened
On March 23, 2018, a Cessna 182 C, registration LV-GMG, was conducting an aerial application mission near San Rafael, Mendoza. The aircraft was engaged in the dispersal of sterile insects at an altitude of 1,500 feet when the engine and propeller suddenly ceased operation.
Following the loss of power, the pilot executed an emergency landing in an unprepared field. The aircraft touched down at a minimum controllable airspeed of 55 knots with flaps fully extended. While the initial contact with the ground was controlled, the soft terrain caused the nose gear to sink and collapse, resulting in the aircraft overturning.
