What happened
During a reconnaissance mission intended to prepare for an upcoming air race in Thailand, an aircraft experienced a critical failure shortly after departing from Nakhon Sawan-Takhli Air Force Base. While the aircraft was climbing to an altitude of approximately 150 feet, the pilot experienced a loss of engine power and notified air traffic control to declare an emergency.
In an attempt to perform an emergency landing, the pilot attempted to return to the airfield. However, the aircraft became uncontrollable during the maneuver and struck a hangar located in the vicinity of the airport. The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames. There were seven fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft, which included the crew, a mechanic, and two photographers.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the accident was the loss of engine power during the initial climb phase.
