Learjet 35A Shot Down Near Pebble Island (T-24)

Incident Overview On 0800LT, a Learjet 35A departed Comodoro Rivadavia Airport to conduct a reconnaissance and aerial photography mission under the callsign Nardo 1. A second aircraft of the same type, registered LV-ONN, was also part of the operation. During the approach to Pebble Island, the aircraft was struck by a surface-to-air Sea Dart missile launched from HMS Exeter. The impact caused the airplane to enter a dive, and it subsequently crashed into the sea. All five crew members aboard were killed in the incident. The official investigation determined that the probable cause of the accident was the aircraft being shot down by a surface-to-air missile.
