What happened
During a local training flight departing from Ramenskoye Airport, southeast of Moscow, an aircraft carrying three instructors, five student pilots, and one passenger experienced a catastrophic loss of control. While the aircraft was cruising at an altitude of 2,100 meters within cloud cover, it encountered significant turbulence.
Following this encounter, the plane entered an uncontrolled descent. The aircraft impacted the ground in a field located approximately 12 km south of Ramenskoye Airport, striking the earth with a 70-degree nose-down attitude. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. All nine occupants on board were killed in the accident. During the wreckage survey, investigators noted that portions of the left wing had been separated from the main fuselage and were located roughly 400 meters away from the primary crash site.
Findings
Official investigations concluded that the aircraft encountered severe turbulence while in flight. The aerodynamic forces generated by this turbulence exceeded the structural certification limits of the aircraft, leading to the partial detachment of the elevators and parts of the left wing, which subsequently caused the pilot to lose control of the plane.
