What happened
On the early morning of the incident, an aircraft departed from Izhevsk Airport at 02:20 local time, en route to Sverdlovsk. The flight maintained its designated altitude of 2,400 meters during the initial stages of the journey. As the aircraft transitioned into its final approach toward Koltsovo Airport, it reached an altitude of approximately 250 meters when a critical failure occurred in the right engine.
Following the loss of power, the aircraft began to descend rapidly. The plane subsequently collided with trees before crashing at the site. The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft type (unspecified model). Of the five people on board, there were two fatalities, involving both the pilot and the co-pilot, while the remaining three occupants sustained injuries.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the right engine ceased functioning because it had been supplied by an empty fuel tank. This mechanical failure was attributed to the crew's failure to properly switch the fuel selector to a functional tank in a timely manner. Additionally, investigators noted inadequate flight supervision by the crew during the operation.
