On December 25, 2019, an Mi-8AMT helicopter, registration RA-22720, operated by JSC "KrasAvia," was performing a commercial flight involving multiple stops including the settlements of CPS and K-219. The flight was part of a mission to transport passengers and baggage within the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Prior to departure from Baykit, the crew performed pre-flight preparations and received meteorological updates indicating conditions were suitable for the mission.
During the takeoff phase, the helicopter encountered a strong snow squall. The crew attempted a takeoff using a helicopter-style method, utilizing the air cushion effect. During the acceleration phase, the crew lost spatial orientation, resulting in an increased pitch-down angle and an uncontrolled descent into the ground.
The aircraft was carrying 21 passengers and 472 kg of baggage, with a total takeoff weight of 12,018 kg. The accident occurred as the helicopter moved from its parking position toward the runway. The investigation noted that the area near the runway edge contained weakly consolidated snow cover exceeding 0.5 meters in depth.
No injuries or fatalities were reported following the collision. The investigation highlighted several operational and environmental discrepancies, including issues with runway markings and the presence of snowdrifts near the operational surface.
