What happened
On February 24, 20 and 23, 2018, a flight operated by KrasAvia was scheduled to transport two passengers and aviation fuel between Sredniy Island and Cape Arctic on Komsomolets Island. The mission involved multiple flight legs, including an initial flight from Khatanga to Sredniy Island on February 23. During the stop at Sredniy Island, the Mi-8T, registration RA-22793, was refueled with 2,000 liters of fuel and loaded with 20 barrels of aviation fuel.
On the following day, February 24, the crew proceeded with the mission to transport the passengers and cargo to Cape Arctic. During the landing phase at Cape Arctic, the helicopter overturned onto its left side. Following the impact, the crew successfully shut down the engines and de-energized the aircraft's electrical systems. No fire was reported during the incident.
The investigation
- The flight was conducted under a service agreement between KrasAvia and Vikkar Company.
- The crew consisted of a pilot-in-command, a co-pilot, and a flight mechanic.
- The aircraft was carrying 2 passengers and 20 barrels of fuel at the time of the incident.
