Aircraft landing incident at Cat Cay

No fatalities • Cat Cay, Bahamas • Landing (descent or approach)

An aircraft experienced an unexpected sink rate during its final approach to Cat Cay, resulting in a collision with a seawall.

What happened

During an approach to land at Cat Cay (MYCC), the pilot encountered an unanticipated and accelerated rate of descent while on short final. In an attempt to correct this descent rate, the pilot increased the pitch of the aircraft.

As the aircraft crossed the runway threshold, the landing gear made contact with a seawall, causing a slight impact. Following this contact, the pilot maintained control of the aircraft and continued the landing roll, eventually coming to a halt approximately 600 feet down the runway.

There were no injuries reported following the event. However, the aircraft sustained substantial damage during the incident.

Probable cause

An unexpected increase in the aircraft's sink rate during final approach led to the landing gear striking a seawall.
