What happened
During a scheduled flight departing from Red Devil and bound for Anchorage, an aircraft encountered extreme meteorological conditions while traversing mountainous regions. While operating over hilly terrain in the vicinity of Sparrevott, the plane was struck by intense downdrafts. This sequence of events led to a crash that resulted in the aircraft catching fire upon impact. The accident resulted in two injuries and the total destruction of the airframe.
Findings
Investigation into the accident identified several environmental factors present at the time of the crash. The aircraft was subjected to significant wind gusts reaching 40 knots, alongside the aforementioned severe downdrafts. Ultimately, the crash was attributed to improper in-flight decisions made by the pilot during the flight.
