Aircraft takeoff aborted following unresponsive left roll

Casualties unknown • Everett, WA, US

A pilot aborted a takeoff after the aircraft began to bank and roll to the left despite corrective inputs, resulting in a landing gear collapse.

What happened

The pilot reported that the initial engine start, taxi, and run-up procedures were completed normally. During the takeoff ground roll, the engines were producing full power. As the aircraft lifted off and reached an altitude of approximately five feet, it began to bank and roll toward the left.

Despite the pilot applying corrective actions, the aircraft failed to respond to the controls. Consequently, the pilot elected to abort the takeoff by reducing engine power. The aircraft subsequently touched down in the soft dirt and grass adjacent to the runway. Upon touchdown, the main landing gear collapsed, causing the airplane to slide to a stop. The pilot was not injured.

The investigation

The pilot reported that there were no indications of mechanical failure or malfunction regarding the engines during the event. An FAA inspector performed an examination of the flight control continuity and found no abnormalities.
