A single-engine aircraft crashed into a ditch while landing in an open field near Stalingrad, resulting in one fatality and one serious injury.

What happened

The aircraft departed Stalingrad Airport for a short local flight to the village of Dubinsky, located in the city's suburbs. The crew consisted of a pilot and one passenger. During the landing phase in an open field, the airplane rolled approximately 30 meters before striking a ditch that was one meter deep. The impact caused the aircraft to overturn, coming to rest upside down. Both occupants sustained serious injuries during the accident. The pilot subsequently died from the wounds received, while the passenger survived.

Findings

The primary factor in the accident was the collision with an unmarked or unexpected ground obstacle immediately after touchdown. The terrain feature, a one-meter deep ditch, caused the aircraft to roll and invert, leading to fatal and serious injuries for those on board.
