What happened
On the day of the accident, a local flight was conducted by a pilot and a mechanic. During the flight, which was being operated at a low altitude, the single engine airplane encountered a stall condition. This caused the aircraft to strike the tops of trees before crashing into a forested region situated approximately 17 km northwest of Usinsk Airport.
The impact resulted in two fatalities, as both the pilot and the mechanic were killed in the crash.
Findings
Investigations into the accident revealed that both crew members were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the flight. Specifically, testing determined that the pilot's blood alcohol concentration was 3.4 ‰. The primary factor contributing to the loss of control and subsequent impact with the trees was crew intoxication.
