What happened
During a flight originating from Tshikapa, the aircraft was executing an approach to Kamako Airfield under favorable weather conditions. As the pilot was on final approach, a sudden shift in the wind component occurred. This change caused the aircraft to lose altitude, leading to an impact with the ground approximately 16 metres before the threshold of runway 12.
The force of the impact caused the undercarriage to partially detach from the airframe. Following the initial contact, the aircraft slid along the terrain, eventually coming to a stop 37 metres beyond the runway threshold. There were six occupants on board, consisting of the pilot and five passengers, all of whom exited the wreckage without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- A sudden change in wind component during the final approach phase was the primary factor leading to the loss of altitude and subsequent ground impact.
