What happened
During an aerial application mission conducted for the Kuban sovkhoz, an aircraft was performing routine crop spraying operations. After completing six successful sorties earlier that morning, the crew took on two additional passengers: one representative from the farm and one worker from a pesticide firm.
While the flight was maintaining a low altitude, the copilot-in-command began executing a right-hand turn. During this maneuver, the aircraft type banked to an angle of 45 degrees, which subsequently triggered a stall. The plane impacted a field during the loss of control. The accident resulted in two fatalities, involving the copilot and one passenger, while the remaining two occupants sustained injuries.
Findings
Investigations into the accident highlighted several critical factors. It was determined that the pilot performed improper maneuvers at a low altitude, which led to the loss of aircraft control. The crew member in command was noted to have limited experience, with only 422 total flying hours. Additionally, the decision to carry two extra passengers was found to be in violation of established flight procedures.
