What happened
On an unspecified date, an incident occurred during agricultural spraying operations for the Novomartynovski state farm in the Bolshaya Martynovka district of the Rostov region. An aircraft mechanic, who was under the influence of alcohol, attempted to operate an aircraft without authorization to demonstrate his piloting abilities. After taking the keys to the CCCP-02599, a biplane, the individual departed with a local passenger on board.
During the flight, the unauthorized pilot lost control of the aircraft. The biplane struck the tops of trees within a forest belt situated approximately 1.7 km from the airfield and 2.5 km from Krivoi Liman. The impact caused the aircraft to crash at coordinates N47°13' E41°46', subsequently triggering a fire that completely destroyed the airframe. The accident resulted in two fatalities.
Findings
Investigations into the crash determined that the primary factor was the intoxicated state of the crew members during the unauthorized flight.
