Accident Details
While conducting a crop spraying operation for the sovkhoz im. Kirova in the Yegorlykskaya district of the Rostov region, the aircraft encountered thick fog, resulting in below-minima weather conditions with poor visibility. On approach to the airfield, the pilot was unable to locate the runway and decided to descend at an unsafe altitude.
Impact and Aftermath
The airplane struck the ground and crashed in flames in a snow-covered field located 1 kilometer short of the runway. The aircraft was destroyed by fire, and both pilots on board were killed.
Official Findings
The probable cause of the accident was determined to be poor flight organization and a wrong decision on the part of the crew, who decided to continue the approach in below-minima weather conditions.
