Aircraft stall and crash at Novy Bor Airfield

No fatalities • Novy Bor, Russia • Takeoff (climb)

An aircraft experienced an aerodynamic stall shortly after takeoff from Novy Bor Airfield, resulting in a runway excursion and significant damage.

What happened

During the initial climb phase following departure from Novy Bor Airfield, the aircraft reached an altitude of approximately 10 metres before experiencing an unexpected pitch-up motion. In an attempt to manage the situation, the pilot decreased engine power as the aircraft entered a stall. The subsequent impact occurred on the runway, roughly 150 metres from the threshold.

Despite the severity of the impact, all 14 occupants managed to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft itself sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.

Findings

Investigations into the incident indicated that the aircraft's center of gravity was positioned significantly behind the permitted aft limit, which contributed to the uncontrolled pitch-up and subsequent stall.

Probable cause

The aircraft experienced an aerodynamic stall due to the center of gravity being positioned beyond the aft limit.
