What happened
Upon completing the landing phase at Buenos Aires-Aeroparque-Jorge Newbury Airport, the flight crew initiated standard braking protocols. During this process, the reverse thrust mechanism failed to deploy as intended. In an attempt to halt the aircraft, the crew engaged the emergency braking system; however, the momentum of the aircraft carried it beyond the runway limits.
As the aircraft overran the runway, it struck a pickup truck that was positioned outside of the designated safety zone. The impact caused severe damage to the airframe, specifically resulting in the loss of both wings and the undercarriage.
Findings
- The primary factor in the overrun was the failure of the reverse thrust to deploy during the landing roll.
- The collision involved a support vehicle parked in an unauthorized area outside the safety perimeter.
- The incident resulted in four injuries among the occupants of the aircraft.
