What happened

During a routine flight departing from Tijuana, the PF-213 (also registered as XC-PFN) approached Mexicali-General Rodolfo Sanchez Taboada Airport. Upon touchdown on runway 28, the aircraft type failed to decelerate sufficiently before the end of the paved surface.

Following the touchdown, the aircraft continued down the runway for approximately 750 metres. During this overrun, the plane struck an embankment and eventually came to a halt in a sandy area adjacent to the airfield.

Findings

  • The aircraft landed too far down the runway, leaving insufficient distance for a safe stop.
  • The impact with an embankment and the subsequent excursion into the sand resulted in the aircraft being damaged beyond repair.
  • Despite the severity of the impact, there were zero fatalities and zero injuries among the six people on board.

Probable cause

The aircraft failed to stop within the remaining runway length after a long touchdown.
