Incident
After takeoff from Jayapura-Sentani Airport, the crew reported engine issues to air traffic control during the climb. They were cleared for an immediate return. After performing a 180-degree turn, the crew initiated an approach to runway 30.
Upon touchdown, the crew began braking and reduced engine power. At that point, a technical problem occurred on the right engine. The aircraft lost control, veered off the runway to the left, and collided with a drainage ditch. It came to rest against palm trees located 72 meters to the left of the runway centerline and 1,050 meters from the runway threshold.
Casualties and Damage
One passenger was killed, and 18 occupants sustained injuries. The aircraft was written off due to the damage.
Probable Cause
According to the official investigation, a technical failure occurred on the right engine, whose rotation could not be reduced below 14,200 rpm after touchdown, for reasons unknown.
