What happened
During a night-time descent, an aircraft crashed into the waters of the Tatar Strait, situated between the Sikhote-Alin region and Sakhalin Island. The flight was performing a training mission over the Okhotsk Sea and was in the process of returning to its home base at Mongokhto AFB when the accident occurred. Debris from the wreckage was located approximately 15 km from Sadinga Cape.
Findings
There were 11 fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft. The investigation into the crash has not yet released specific technical conclusions regarding the descent phase, though the wreckage was recovered in the maritime area between the mainland and the island.
