Incident
While completing a mission over the region of Aqaba, an aircraft experienced an engine failure in flight. The captain decided to divert to Aqaba for a safe landing.
Landing
Upon arrival, the captain landed on the wrong runway, which was too short for the aircraft, referencing the wind component as the basis for the runway choice. After touchdown, the aircraft encountered difficulties in stopping. To avoid overrunning the runway, the captain raised the landing gear, causing the aircraft to sink onto its belly.
Aftermath
The aircraft slid on its belly for several yards, overran the runway end, and came to rest in a sandy area beyond the runway. There were no casualties; however, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
Investigation
The official investigation determined the probable cause to be engine failure in flight.
