What happened
During an arrival at Dnepropetrovsk Airport, the flight crew encountered significant crosswinds. While performing the approach, the crew committed several operational errors. The captain allowed the aircraft to descend below the established glide path and did not execute a go-around procedure despite the unstable approach.
When the aircraft reached the runway, the left main landing gear collapsed upon contact with the surface. This structural failure caused the left wing to strike the ground. Following the impact, the aircraft drifted off the left side of the runway and subsequently caught fire.
All 35 occupants were successfully evacuated from the wreckage. Among those rescued, 14 individuals sustained injuries. The aircraft was completely destroyed during the incident.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was an incorrect approach configuration maintained by the flight crew.
