What happened
During a night flight originating from Volgograd, the crew began their descent toward Sverdlovisk-Koltsovo Airport. While performing the final approach, the aircraft encountered difficulties with its flight path. The aircraft struck a line of trees after the crew failed to maintain the correct alignment and altitude for the landing.
Following the impact with the trees, the plane continued its descent into an open field, coming to a stop approximately 1,700 meters before reaching the threshold of runway 08. The impact caused the fuselage to break into two separate sections. The accident resulted in four fatalities, including three passengers and one crew member. Additionally, 40 individuals sustained injuries during the crash, though the remaining occupants were successfully evacuated from the wreckage.
Findings
Investigation into the sequence of events indicates that the primary factor in the accident was pilot error regarding flight path management, specifically a failure to recognize that the aircraft was misaligned with the runway and was at an insufficient altitude during the final approach phase.
