The Spanish airport operator Aena has signed the purchase contract for the shares of Rio de Janeiro's international airport, adding Galeão to a Brazilian network that now covers 18 airports.

Aena has signed the purchase contract for the shares of Rio de Janeiro's international airport, Galeão. The agreement was signed on 6 October, according to the Spanish airport operator.
Aena won the tender for the airport at the end of March with a bid of 2.9 billion real.
With Galeão, Aena's Brazilian network grows to 18 airports across ten states, handling more than 63 million passengers a year in total. The concession for the Rio de Janeiro airport runs until 2039.
Galeão also becomes part of Aena's worldwide network of 81 airports in five countries. The operator said it intends to expand the airport's international and domestic connections as well as its cargo business.
