Air Astana earns IATA sustainable procurement certification

Air Astana has been certified under the International Air Transport Association's Integrated Sustainability Program for sustainable procurement, according to the airline. The carrier said it is the first airline in Central Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States to earn the certification, and the third worldwide.

The certification looks at how a company weighs environmental, social and governance criteria in purchasing decisions. It also examines supplier evaluation processes, corporate governance procedures, and sustainability standards applied across the supply chain, the airline said.

According to Air Astana, its certification rests on an internal sustainability- and ESG-oriented procurement policy, together with a code of conduct for suppliers. Since 2024 the airline has also run a recognition scheme honouring suppliers and business partners for notable ESG performance.

The announcement gave no further detail on the assessment process, nor did it name the other two certified airlines worldwide.
