Air Baltic plans to cut 500 to 700 jobs, the Latvian airline said on Monday, 5 October. Staff at its bases in Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn could be affected. The carrier employs around 3,000 people across the Baltics.

No individual decisions have been taken yet, according to the airline. It is negotiating with unions on measures that include a possible reduction in working hours for pilots and cabin crew.

Air Baltic said it has notified the Latvian employment agency of the planned collective redundancy procedure.

The cuts are part of a new business plan, which also provides for a smaller fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The current flight schedule is not expected to be affected.

The airline sought creditor protection in mid-September.
