Caribbean Airlines is adding international routes and seasonal charters while it reviews its network against commercial demand and high fuel costs.
From 25 October 2026, the state-owned carrier will operate a weekly Sunday nonstop between Tobago and Toronto. The airline said the link is intended to build connectivity with Canada ahead of the winter peak and to support tourism and family travel.
On 31 October it will resume commercial passenger services between Trinidad and Caracas. The route had been suspended following two major earthquakes in Venezuela earlier this year, according to the airline.
Caribbean Airlines also plans charter flights between Trinidad and Panama on selected Tuesdays and Fridays from 1 December 2026 to 9 February 2027, aimed at demand over the Christmas and Carnival periods.
The Trinidad and Tobago-based carrier said it is assessing its network to keep operations in line with commercial realities and fuel costs. It is also working through an inherited nine-year auditing backlog covering financial statements from 2017 onwards. Chair Reyna Kowlessar described clearing that backlog as part of rebuilding and positioning the airline.
As part of fleet optimisation, the carrier is selling two of its ATR 72-600 turboprops, one of which has already been handed to its new owner. It also flies Boeing 737 aircraft on regional and North American routes.
The changes follow recent executive turnover. The airline replaced its chief executive late last year, and Varma Khillawan, vice-president of maintenance and engineering, has been acting chief executive since April while a permanent appointment is made.
