Air New Zealand's Skycouch Sees Only Niche Adoption After 15 Years
Air New Zealand's Economy Skycouch, launched in 2011, has been licensed to just three other carriers since its debut.
Air New Zealand introduced its Economy Skycouch in 2011. The product lets a row of three economy seats convert into a flat surface for passengers on long-haul flights. It created a new option between standard economy and premium economy.
Only three other airlines have licensed the design since then: Air Austral, Azul Brazilian Airlines, and China Airlines. None of the large US carriers took it up. Air New Zealand has used the product across its widebody fleet for 15 years.
