American Airlines flight met by police in Miami after passenger misconduct report

An American Airlines flight arriving at Miami International Airport late Friday night was met by law enforcement after crew reported indecent behaviour by a female passenger during the flight.

Flight AA1779, an Airbus A319 registered N737US, left Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport at 8:45 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 11, 2026. It had been scheduled to depart at 7:10 p.m., about an hour and a half earlier.

The lead flight attendant told the cockpit crew that a passenger in row 9 had removed all her clothing and was seen by other passengers touching herself in an indecent manner, according to ACARS messages sent during the flight. The report went out at 02:14 UTC on September 12, while the aircraft was cruising at 38,000 feet. The message said the matter had to be passed to the airline's operations control and that law enforcement should be requested.

Crew followed the airline's flight operations manual and contacted American Airlines' Integrated Operations Center to ask that local police meet the aircraft on arrival.

The flight did not divert. It landed at Miami International Airport at 11:32 p.m. EDT and taxied to Gate D2 in the North Terminal, where officers boarded and took the passenger into custody. Authorities in Miami-Dade are investigating.
