French investigators probe Wamos Air A330 low approach to Reunion
French authorities have opened an investigation after a Wamos Air A330-200 deviated from its approach path and descended to about 1,000 ft while still over water north of Reunion.
French investigators have opened a probe into a serious approach deviation involving a Wamos Air Airbus A330-200 at Reunion Island. The aircraft was operating from Paris Orly on 3 September. According to French investigation authority BEA, the twinjet experienced satellite navigation interference during the cruise phase. The crew elected to conduct a conventional approach using the Roland Garros VOR at the airport near Saint-Denis.
As the descent began, air traffic control noticed the aircraft moving well away from its published route. It descended below 3,000 ft and was approaching 1,000 ft while apparently still over water to the north of the island. ATC ordered an immediate climb. The aircraft landed on runway 14 without further issue. No occupants were injured.
The BEA said no conclusions have been reached. The aircraft registration was EC-ORP.
