Delta Rome–Atlanta flight declares emergency, diverts to Dublin

Delta Air Lines flight DL215, operating from Rome Fiumicino to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, declared a general emergency over the Atlantic Ocean and turned back toward Ireland. The aircraft, an Airbus A330-900 with registration N422DZ, had departed Rome at 10:00 AM local time and was more than four hours into its journey at a planned cruising altitude of 36,000 feet when the crew abandoned the oceanic crossing.

According to AIRLIVE, the pilots transmitted squawk code 7700 as the jet began its descent toward Irish airspace, holding at 28,000 feet on the return east. Emergency services at Dublin Airport were alerted ahead of arrival, and the aircraft was due to be met by an ambulance for a medical emergency on board.

The airline scheduled a new departure from Dublin at 4:00 PM.
