Atran resumes cargo flights after Russian regulator reinstates certificate

Russian cargo carrier Atran has restarted commercial operations with a Boeing 737-400 freighter following the reinstatement of its air operator's certificate in September. The Volga-Dnepr Group airline flew Moscow Vnukovo to Mirny, via Novosibirsk, on 16 October.

Atran, the cargo airline of the Volga-Dnepr Group, is back in service after Russia's federal air transport regulator restored its air operator's certificate. The carrier said it flew commercially on 16 October between Moscow Vnukovo and Mirny, routing through Novosibirsk.

Atran had asked for its certificate to be suspended voluntarily in 2025. It had been subject to international sanctions. In 2023 the airline turned to Antonov An-12s after uncertainty arose over its leased 737 fleet.

According to the carrier, one Boeing 737-400 freighter, registered RA-73854, was taken out of storage, completed a maintenance C-check and made a test flight in late August. Rosaviatsia reinstated the certificate the following month.

Atran said the 737-400 can carry 18t of payload. It described Mirny as an industrial centre that supplies businesses with essential materials and equipment. The return of its commercial flights, the airline said, widens the Volga-Dnepr Group's reach in domestic cargo transport.
