Bangladeshi carriers owe regulator over 488 million euros in unpaid fees

Five airlines in Bangladesh owe the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) more than 70 billion taka between them, about 488 million euros, according to Aviation and Tourism Times.

The debt comes from landing and navigation charges and rents, and has built up over several years.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines accounts for the largest share by far. At the end of August the state-owned carrier owed 58.43 billion taka, about 408 million euros, or some 83 percent of the total.

Four private carriers make up the rest. GMG Airlines owes 4.11 billion taka, around 29 million euros. Regent Airways owes 4.54 billion taka, about 32 million euros, and United Airways around 3.91 billion taka, roughly 27 million euros.

Novoair owes the least, at about 130 million taka, or some 907,000 euros.
