Berlin Brandenburg Terminal 1 evacuated after hazardous material alert

The public area of Terminal 1 at Berlin Brandenburg Airport was evacuated on Thursday evening after a hazardous-material alert. Federal police triggered the alarm around 5:45 p.m. over a suspected dangerous substance. The closure remained in effect nearly two hours later, at about 7:30 p.m.

Flight operations continued largely as normal. Aircraft that had already been processed could depart, and incoming flights could land. Passenger handling was moved to Terminal 2 as far as possible. One Eurowings service to Stuttgart was cancelled for the evening. No further details on the suspicious substance were initially available.
