Hamburg Airport closes runway 15/33 for maintenance until late September

Hamburg Airport will close runway 15/33, which lies toward Norderstedt and Alsterdorf, from September 9 until about September 23. All takeoffs and landings will use runway 05/23, which points toward Niendorf and Langenhorn. The airport is using the closure for bundled maintenance, including removing rubber deposits from touchdown zones, cleaning drainage channels, applying new markings, and checking lighting and other electrical systems. At the runway end in Alsterdorf, a larger asphalt area and a drainage channel will be renewed. Because of stricter safety requirements from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the airport said further short-term daytime closures are planned during the year.
