Biman Bangladesh adds 11 Boeing jets to April order

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has ordered five Boeing 787-10s and six 737 Max 8s, adding to a commitment for 14 jets announced earlier in the year. The carrier and the manufacturer confirmed the deal on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. No financial terms or delivery timeline were released.

Biman already flies Boeing aircraft, with 737NGs, 777s and 787s in its fleet.

In late April the airline signed its largest order so far, for 10 787s and four 737 Max 8s. That agreement was valued at $3.7 billion and included Biman's first order for the larger 787-10, which the airline has said will be used on its Middle East network.

Airline chair Rumee Hossain called the additional aircraft an important step in the carrier's fleet renewal and network expansion. He said Biman, as the national flag carrier, remains committed to building its network and capabilities in response to the connectivity needs of Bangladesh, its expatriate community, business and tourism. He described the agreement as one part of a wider plan to strengthen the country's international connectivity in the years ahead.

The order was announced hours after Boeing and Turkish Airlines finalised a provisional agreement covering up to 150 737 Max aircraft. The Star Alliance member is taking 100 firm Max 8s and 50 optioned aircraft.
