Nearly 17,000 Boeing engineers and technical workers represented by SPEEA have voted to reject contract offers and authorize a strike. In the Professional Unit, 88% authorized a walkout. The figure was 90% in the Technical Unit. A strike could begin as early as October 7. The vote comes about two years after a 53-day machinist strike halted assembly lines. An authorized walkout threatens Boeing's operational recovery and could affect the 737 MAX production rate of 42 aircraft per month.
