Ukraine confirms operational use of Saab 340 AEW&C aircraft since March
Ukraine's defence ministry has for the first time officially confirmed that Swedish-supplied Saab 340 AEW&C early warning aircraft have been operational since March 2026.
Ukraine has been operating Swedish-supplied Saab 340 AEW&C early warning aircraft since March 2026. The Ukrainian defence ministry confirmed this after footage of one flying over Ukraine emerged earlier.
Sweden said in 2024 it would deliver two of the aircraft, also called ASC 890, and confirmed their handover in August 2025. Based on the Saab 340 airframe, the planes carry Erieye radar and can detect aircraft, missiles and drones. They are also meant to coordinate fighter jets and work within Ukraine's command and control system.
