Breeze Airways Retires Final Embraer E190, Completes Transition to All-Airbus A220 Fleet
Low-cost carrier Breeze Airways has retired its last Embraer E190, completing its shift to an all-Airbus A220-300 fleet. The airline launched in 2021 with a mix of E190s and E195s.
Breeze Airways retired its final Embraer E190 this week, completing the carrier's transition to an all-Airbus A220-300 fleet. The airline said its last E190 flight took place on Monday, though it did not disclose the route.
Breeze began commercial service in 2021 with 10 E190s and three E195s. Over the following years, it gradually phased out the Embraer jets in favor of the A220-300, citing the Airbus model's larger interior space and better fuel efficiency. The E195s were retired last year.
As of Tuesday, Breeze has taken delivery of 55 A220s from a total order of 90, with options for up to 30 more. Founder and CEO David Neeleman said the airline's long-term strategy has been to use the A220-300's strengths and efficiencies to scale its business model of offering affordable nonstop flights from underserved markets.
He added that the Embraer 190 literally got Breeze off the ground in 2021 and served the airline well, and it bids farewell to the E-Jet with gratitude and nostalgia.
