Copa Airlines restores operations after Panama earthquake disruption

Copa Airlines is working to normalize its flight schedule after seismic activity in Panama forced repeated runway and terminal inspections at Tocumen International Airport, causing delays and cancellations. The carrier has extended its rebooking and refund policy for affected passengers.

Copa Airlines is still rebuilding its schedule after a day of repeated temporary closures at Tocumen International Airport. Friday's seismic activity in Panama, followed by continuing aftershocks, prompted authorities to run repeated technical reviews and structural inspections of the runways and terminal buildings, further disrupting flights.

The airline said the result has been prolonged delays, cancellations and itinerary changes. Staff are working to regularize the flow of flights bound for Panama and connections through its Hub of the Americas.

Copa has extended its commercial flexibility policy for passengers whose travel plans were affected. Tickets issued up to October 9, 2026 are covered, for trips originally scheduled between October 9 and October 14, 2026, on any route the airline operates. Date changes are allowed with no penalty charge or fare difference, and travel may be rescheduled for completion up to October 31, 2026. Arrangements can be made through the airline's own service centers or through travel agencies.
