Icelandair plans to open a route to St Louis and put Madrid back on its map for the summer 2027 season, the carrier said, as it widens a partnership with Southwest Airlines to offer more connections in the United States.

Madrid will be served two or three times a week between 9 April and 25 October, with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The St Louis service is scheduled to operate three or four times a week from 14 May to 24 October, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Under the larger Southwest arrangement, travellers will be able to connect through St Louis between points across North America, Iceland and Icelandair's European network. For passengers starting in Iceland, the tie-up opens onward travel to US cities, with a focus on Texas and nearby states.

Chief commercial officer Tómas Ingason said the new destinations would widen the airline's travel options as it gets ready to mark its 90th anniversary in June 2027.
