Boeing 767s are turning up on short, high-demand routes instead of the long-haul missions they were designed for. Operators want revenue from aircraft that still have substantial cabin capacity.

Delta Air Lines has put the 767-400ER on domestic routes, including Atlanta to Las Vegas and New York JFK to San Diego, according to the account. Icelandair has scheduled the 767-300ER on European sectors, among them Reykjavík to Stockholm.

The deployments are a commercial calculation rather than nostalgia. The aircraft remain useful where their size matters more than their range.
