An easyJet flight from Cyprus to Scotland diverted to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Tuesday evening after a passenger suffered a severe medical emergency in flight, according to an aviation news report.
Flight U23170, an Airbus A320 registered G-EZWL, left Larnaca Airport on October 6 bound for Glasgow. About four hours in, cruising at 38,000 feet over the North Sea, the passenger went into life-threatening distress. Responders on board began CPR in the cabin.
The captain declared a general emergency, set the transponder to squawk code 7700, and told air traffic control an immediate landing was needed. Controllers gave the aircraft priority and cleared it for a direct descent to Schiphol.
The crew landed on Runway 06 about 22 minutes after the distress call, then taxied to Gate D60, where local medical teams boarded to take over resuscitation and emergency care.
