Edinburgh Airport names Mark Johnston as chief executive

Mark Johnston will take over as chief executive of Edinburgh Airport on October 1, succeeding Gordon Dewar, the airport said.

He joins from London Gatwick, where he was chief operating officer, and has previously been managing director of Glasgow Airport. The airport said he is well known across the aviation industry.

Johnston said he was proud to be appointed, calling Edinburgh a city that means a great deal to him as someone born and raised there. He said it was an exciting time to join as the airport begins the largest capital investment programme in its history, and pointed to the team already in place.

Dewar is stepping down after 14 years in the job. He called the change bittersweet but said he was delighted that someone of Johnston's calibre would succeed him. Dewar said he had known Johnston for many years and cited his aviation experience, leadership credentials and understanding of the Scottish aviation market. Johnston knows Edinburgh and the role the airport plays in the city's success, he added.

Edinburgh Airport is Scotland's busiest and most connected airport. It welcomed almost 17 million passengers in 2025, a record for any Scottish airport.
