TSA PreCheck members offered gate access at 13 US airports
The TSA has launched a programme letting PreCheck members request a free pass to enter gateside areas without a flight booking, initially at 13 airports.
The Transportation Security Administration has introduced a benefit that lets TSA PreCheck members pass through the checkpoint without holding a ticket. Under the programme, called Gateside by TSA PreCheck, members can request a free gateside pass at participating airports.
The pass allows holders into the secure area beyond the checkpoint. The agency lists uses including accompanying travellers to their gate, meeting passengers who have just landed, using airport restaurants and shops, and visiting the terminal without a flight booking.
Thirteen airports are taking part at launch. They are Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Dallas Fort Worth International, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County, Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Harry Reid International in Las Vegas, Indianapolis International, John Glenn Columbus International, Los Angeles International, Mesa Gateway in Arizona, Salt Lake City International, San Diego International and Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport.
Access is limited to PreCheck members who request a pass. No end date or plans for wider expansion were stated.
