Edinburgh Airport unveils first phase of £500m investment programme
Edinburgh Airport has announced the first stage of a five-year capital investment plan worth more than £500 million, covering terminal expansion, new gates and additional aircraft stands.

Edinburgh Airport has announced the first stage of a five-year capital programme worth more than £500 million at the site. The news comes three days after Mark Johnston was named to succeed chief executive Gordon Dewar.
Phase one covers a terminal expansion: a 60% increase in the terminal's footprint, a bigger check-in hall and departure lounge, new gates for route growth, and extra aircraft stands for additional movements. The South East Pier extension, visited by First Minister John Swinney, is due to open fully in summer 2027.
The airport said the investment is meant to prepare Scotland's busiest airport for future growth and support new long-haul and short-haul routes, expanding connections to Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia. It said the programme also aligns with its Greater Good sustainability strategy, through modernised infrastructure and opportunities to add low-carbon measures.
The airport said the plan shows the commitment of VINCI Airports and GIP to the site. The five-year programme is the first part of a longer investment vision for the airport and its surrounding campus.
