EU Commission allocates €430m to airlines for SAF use in 2025

The European Commission is distributing around 5.2 million emissions allowances to 130 operators as support for sustainable aviation fuel use this year, up from about €100m in 2024.

The European Commission is making roughly 430 million euros available to airlines for their use of sustainable aviation fuel in 2025. About 5.2 million emissions allowances will go to 130 operators, according to the Commission. A year earlier, the support stood at around 100 million euros.

Airlines reported more than 530,000 tonnes of SAF for 2025. The Commission said this avoided some 1.7 million tonnes of CO2. Combined with other incentives from the zero rating of SAF under the EU emissions trading system, total support comes to about 565 million euros.

Since 2024, 20 million allowances worth around 1.5 billion euros have been set aside for SAF funding.
