Five Russian drones enter Moldovan airspace amid strikes on Ukraine
Moldova's defence ministry said five drones crossed into its airspace overnight during Russian attacks on Ukraine, with some leaving quickly and others disappearing from radar.
Five drones crossed into Moldovan airspace early Thursday during a wave of Russian air strikes on Ukraine, Moldova's defence ministry said.
According to the ministry, the drones entered from the direction of Ukraine between 3:56 a.m. and 5:50 a.m. local time. Some left Moldovan airspace again after a short period. Others simply vanished from radar screens, the ministry said.
Officials linked the incursions to the broader Russian assault on Ukraine that night. No damage or casualties were reported in connection with the airspace violations.
Moldovan authorities said they are continuing to monitor the airspace after the incident. They gave no further details on where the drones came from, what type they were, or what they may have been targeting.
The episode is the latest in a series of similar incidents in recent months, in which drones or debris tied to the war in Ukraine have crossed into neighbouring countries' airspace, prompting closer monitoring by regional authorities.
